There was a 72% drop in the number of gorse fires attended by the Kerry Fire Service during the first four months of 2026.
That’s according to figures compiled the by Kerry Fire Service for between January and April.
These figures that outline the numbers and types of call-outs the service attends.
In the first four months of this year, the Kerry Fire Service was mobilised 461 times.
That’s a reduction of over a quarter (26%) when compared with the same period last year, when it was mobilised 621 times.
The number of gorse fires in Kerry fell by 72% in a year, with 26 recorded up to the end of April, down from 92.
25 chimney fires were recorded in the county, up 4% in twelve months, when 24 were recorded.
Kerry Fire Service responded to 70 road traffic collisions, down from 75 last year, a 7% drop.
In total, up to the end of April, the fire service attended 108 fires, an 86% decrease on the same period in 2025, when it responded to 201 fires.
