There was a 60% decrease in the number of commencement notices issued in Kerry within a month.
A commencement notice must be submitted to a local building authority before construction work begins on a new building or major renovation project.
Since the start of this year, there’ve been 457 commencement notices issued in Kerry.
That’s an increase of 53% on last year’s total figure; in all of last year, construction started on 297 homes in the county.
In January this year, construction started on 154 homes in Kerry, however, that figure dropped significantly in February when there were just 14 commencement notices issued in the county.
The figure rose again in March when 93 such notices were issued marking the start of construction of homes, and there was a significant rise again in April when 140 commencement notices were issued in Kerry.
The figure fell back again in May when just 56 commencement notices were issued in Kerry.
These figures were released by the Department of Housing.
The figures show that nationally, works on over 13,100 new homes has started since the start of the year; that’s up 161% from the same period last year.
