There has been a 35% rise in the number of crashes attended by the Kerry Fire Service during first eight months of the year.
That’s according to figures compiled by the Fire Service.
These figures outline the numbers and types of call-outs the service attends.
Between January and August, the Kerry Fire Service attended 199 road traffic collisions, this is a rise of 35% compared to the same period last year, when it attended 147 crashes.
The fire service was mobilised 1,206 times up to the end of August, up from 970, a 24% increase.
The number of gorse fires in Kerry rose by 264% in a year, with 135 recorded in the first eight months, up from 37 on the same period in 2024.
Instances of chimney fires in the county decreased by 34% during the period, with 29 recorded; down from 44.
In total, between January and the end of August, the Fire Service attended 331 fires, a jump of 57% on the same period last year, when it attended 211 fires.
