More than three-in-every five people on Kerry’s social housing list have selected Killarney MD as one of their three areas of choice.
That’s according to the most recent Killarney Municipal District (MD) Housing Directorate Report.
1,537 of the nearly 2,500 (2,482) approved applicants selected the MD as an area of choice.
981 of the approved applicants in Killarney MD are waiting for their first social home, while the remaining 556 are seeking transfers.
The vast majority, or 902 of the applicants, have requested a 1-bedroom unit, with two-bed units being the next most in demand housing type (347).
38 new applications have been received in 2026 to date.
Since the start of the year, there have been no new local authority, rental accommodation scheme (RAS), or lease social housing tenants.
However, there have been six new Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme tenants.
No new social housing schemes are at the planning and design stage, but approved housing bodies (AHB) are currently constructing 213 units in Killarney MD.
Two social housing leasing initiative houses are also being built and expected to be completed by May.
