There has been a 23% drop in the number of commencement notices submitted to Kerry County Council over a 12 month period.
That’s according to figures compiled by the council, which were presented to elected members recently.
A commencement notice must be submitted to a local building authority before construction work begins on a new building or major renovation project.
In the first five months of this year, Kerry County Council received 228 commencement notices.
That’s a reduction on the same period the previous year, when 295 were submitted to the local authority.
The number of fire safety certificate applications also saw a reduction, with the council receiving 75 as of the end of May.
This represents a decrease of 41% compared to the first five months of last year.
Meanwhile, submissions for disability access certificate applicants increased by 26%, with 58 received by the council between January and May; up from 46 the previous year.
