Staff at University Hospital Kerry had a compliance rate of almost 94% when it comes to washing their hands.
This is according to findings from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre which have been published in today’s Irish Independent.
Between 2018 and 2024, University Hospital Kerry's rate never fell below 90% which is the compliance target.
The hospital with the highest rate for staff handwashing was at Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin where there was a 99 per cent compliance.
The lowest score nationally was at Naas General where just under 84% of staff scored compliance.
The national survey also found that doctors had the lowest compliance rate at under 84% while almost 95% of nurses and midwives met handwashing standards.
Staff were judged at critical times including before or after touching a patient.
The survey was conducted last October and November.
