Kilcummin 1-11 Spa Killarney 0-12
Kilcummin made it two wins from two when they defeated Spa 1-11 to 0-12 under lights at Spa GAA grounds on Friday night with a Colm Kelleher goal minutes into the second half proving decisive.
In a game which saw both sides enjoy purple patches the winners finished the strongest with a Mikie O Shea brace and a Jack Fogarty point put the winners 1-11 to 0-10 clear heading into injury time and despite Spa finding the games last two scores Kilcummin had enough in the bang to go top of Division 7B.
Kilcummin opened brightly and enjoyed a 0-5 to 0-2 lead by the 10th minute helped in no small way by the accuracy of Mikie O Shea from dead balls as he raised 4 white flags after Aaron Buckley levelled matters up 0-1 each after Spa opened the scoring.
Spa enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the second quarter and got back level on the 28th minute but a late score by Colin O’Leary had Kilcummin ahead 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.
Indeed, it could have been so different only for a superb double save by Kilcummin keeper Dylan Cronin who twice saved at point blank range to keep Spa at bay.
Spa were level within seconds of the restart but for the second game in a row Jack Fogarty got on the scoresheet from corner back to tie up matters for 3rd time in the game.
Then the all decisive score arrived as Colm Kelleher got on the end of a long ball into the square as he punched it past the onrushing keeper. It put Kilcummin four clear.
However rather than pushing on, it was Spa that took control once more and reeled off the games next 3 points. A Lorcan O Connor score kept them at bay before Mikie O Shea added two more points, one a free that was cleverly won by Shane McSweeney who was prevented from his solo and go. The final Kilcummin score came from Jack Fogarty who once again joined the attack to get his second point from corner back and despite Spa ending with the games last two scores, it was Kilcummin that had enough to secure their second win of the campaign.
