Kerry were beaten at Down in the Joe McDonagh Cup.

In Ballycran it ended Kerry 2-19 Down 2-26.

It was 2 points apiece after 6 minutes. Padraig Boyle pointed the Kingdom in front at 4 points to 3 after 9 minutes but Down went up the other end and goaled. However, 3 successive Kingdom points-2 by Ronan Walsh and 1 from Niall Mulcahy-had Kerry in front. Kevin Goulding and Paudie O'Connor put over to send the Kingdom 3 clear at 1-10 to 1-7 after 28 minutes. Down drew level by the half hour mark at 1-10 each. It was 1-11 all at the break.

The sides were still level 7 minutes into the second half at 1-14 all. Down went 3 in front before a Luke Rochford goal had Kerry level again. After Kerry went a point in front at 2-15 to 1-17 a goal from sub Chris Egan had Down ahead. That made it 2-17 to 2-15 in favour of Down 18 minutes into the period. Down were 7 up with 5 minutes remaining and won by that margin.
