A replay will be required to decide the winner of the Mid Kerry Senior Football Championship, sponsored by Bunkers Bar and Restaurant, Killorglin.
At JP O’Sullivan Park in Killorglin Beaufort and Milltown/Castlemaine drew 1-14 apiece.
Beaufort began the game with an opening minute two pointer, through Ciaran Kennedy. The game was barely 2 minutes old when Beaufort goaled, Darragh O’Connor netting. Milltown Castlemaine responded with a fourth minute point, and got it back to 1-3 to 0-4 after 11 minutes. Milltown/Castlemaine drew level but back to back points meant that after 20 minutes Beaufort were in front by 1-5 to 0-6. Beaufort went 3 ahead, and their advantage at half time was 1-8 to 0-8.
After Beaufort put over the first two points of the second period Milltown/Castlemaine registered a 2 pointer to move back within 3. They then made it a 2 point game at 1-10 to 0-11. Despite going down to 14 in the 45th minute following a red card for Nathan Breen Beaufort extended their advantage to 3 just a couple of minutes later. 9 minutes from time a Brendan Casey goal made it a drawn game at 1-11 apiece. After Milltown/Castlemaine pointed to go ahead for the first time a black card saw Beaufort reduced to 13. 2 quick points extended the Milltown/Castlemaine advantage to 3 with 5 minutes remaining. Beaufort got the deficit down to 2, then 1. Only a great save then denied Beaufort the goal to go in front. Beaufort did equalise inside the final 2 minutes; 1-14 each. With a minute to go Eanna O'Connor had the chance to put Milltown/Castlemaine 2 clear but his effort went wide. Beaufort got a 45 after the hooter but Fergal Hallissey's effort did not produce the winning score.
