A sun-drenched Friday evening in Glenbeigh served up a cracking Division 1 clash, as GG hosted long-time rivals Beaufort in front of a massive travelling crowd—outnumbering the locals 5 to 1! Beaufort came flying out of the traps, racing into a 6-point lead inside the opening 10 minutes, with Liam Carey leading the charge and Sean Coffey (Kerry’s No.3 goalkeeper) launching pinpoint kickouts that kept GG pinned back. GG gradually worked their way into the game, with veteran Ciaran Doyle inspiring a more aggressive defensive effort and Sean T. Sheahan testing Coffey, but Caoilim Teahan started to find his range. But just when the hosts looked to be gaining momentum, Carey struck for a brilliant goal just before half-time, stretching Beaufort’s lead to six and leaving GG trailing 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.
The second half was a different story. GG came out with real purpose, with Pa Kilkenny and Jack Brosnan sparking attacking waves, and Keilan O’Sullivan finishing a flowing move with a brilliant goal of his own. Caoilim Teahan was sensational all evening, notching 0-12, including two massive points late on to haul GG back into it. Jamie Tim O’Sullivan levelled the match as the clock ticked down, Beaufort went ahead again through a Hallissey free. Then, in the dying minutes, Brosnan powered down the right wing to earn a tough free. Up stepped Fionn O’Sullivan, who curled it over on his left to seal a dramatic draw—securing Beaufort’s Division 1 survival and a proud comeback for the home side.
