Causeway knock out holders Kilmoyley to go through to County Final

Defending champions Kilmoyley are out of the Garvey's SuperValu County Senior Hurling Championship.

They've been beaten by Causeway in the last four, 3-21 to 1-25.

Kilmoyley had the first two scores of the encounter and led by 2 points to no score after 5 minutes. Causeway responded with 2 points of their own to draw level. 1/4 of an hour in the sides could still not be separated and it was 4 apiece. After Paul McGrath put Causeway ahead Barry O'Sullivan and Daniel Collins put over to nudge Kilmoyley ahead once more. Another McGrath point brought his side on terms once more; 0-6 each after 19 minutes. Back to back points by Robert Monahan had Kilmoyley two to the good 3 minutes out from half-time. Kilmoyley were 3 to the good at the break, at 9 points to 6.

A 4th point of the day by Daniel Collins extended the Kilmoyley advantage to 4 upon the resumption. A Paul McGrath point cut that deficit but Barry O'Sullivan responded immediately and the gap was up to 4 again. Jordan Brick made it a 5 point game before Joe Diggins brought it back to 4. Gavin Dooley then netted for Causeway and the difference was down to the minimum. Causeway looked to be in the ascendancy but Kilmoyley hit back with a goal of their own, Robert Monahan the scorer. A Kilmoyley point followed and suddenly the gap had increased to 5 at 1-13 to 1-8, after 43 minutes. It was 1-14 to 1-10 entering the final 13 minutes. The gap was 3 with 5 to go at 1-16 to 1-13. Kilmoyley just couldn't shake Causeway off, the difference down to 2 as added on time approached. After Kilmoyley went 3 ahead a 61st minute Causeway goal forced extra-time; Gavin Dooley the scorer again.

Causeway maintained the momentum when extra time began with 4 points in a row before Kilmoyley got their first point of the period. A 2-18 to 1-18 lead was doubled when Brandon Barrett goaled 6 minutes into the half. Come half-time Causeway led by four, 3-19 to 1-21.

The sides swapped points early in the second half but there was no further scoring until inside the closing 3 minutes as a Kilmoyley point made it 3-20 to 1-23. A Daniel Collins free cut the gap further but a Causeway free made it a 3 point game inside the first of two added on minutes. Another Kilmoyley point followed but Causeway held on to book an August 7th showdown against Ballyduff.
