| Ballincollig managed to win their fourth game in a row after starting the season 0-2 with a thrilling 97-96 triumph over Griffith College Éanna.
Latrell Jossell, Josh Stell and Adrian O’Sullivan all scored at least 20 points against Éanna on Saturday evening. The lead changed hands in the game just once with Ballincollig taking the lead in the first and didn’t look back from there.
Late free throws from James Gormley made it a one point game but Ballincollig had enough resolve to hold out and take home their fourth victory of the season. The two teams meet again next weekend in the Pat Duffy National Cup.
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors entered the top three in the Domino’s Men’s Super League with a 96-87 victory over St. Vincent’s in the first Saturday fixture of the weekend.
The offensive trio of Jordan Perkins, Daniel Jokubaitis and Eoin Quigley combined for 66 of Tralee’s 96 points as they managed to build as much as a 25-point lead during the game. Vincent’s managed to slowly eat into the deficit but a late push for Vincent’s almost managed to get the job done for them.
The win sees Tralee at 4-2 in third place. However for Vincent’s, the loss sees them fall to tenth in the table at 2-4 for the start to their season.
Energywise Ireland Neptune finally managed to get their first win that has evaded them to this point with a 79-75 win over EJ Sligo All-Stars. Ryell Rodney Etyle-Rock continued his fine form with 29 points for Sligo on a season where he is averaging almost 25 points according to Swish All Hoops.
However, Rock’s efforts was not enough to get the win over the line as Adon Gregorio dropped 23 points for Neptune along with an efficiency of 24. Neptune rise above UCC Demons at the foot of the table as they go 1-5. For Sligo, the loss sees them end the weekend in ninth with a record of 2-4.
Promoted side Limerick Celtics endured another tough week at the office as they lost 99-80 to Killester on Saturday evening. Robert Braswell IV managed to improve on what was already a stellar season so far for him individually as he dropped 29 points along with 8 rebounds.
For Celtics, they fall to 2-4 behind a notably good 15-point showing from Ruairi Cronin as he made 5 threes for Celtics. New acquisition Zachery Hudson is slowly getting into his new surroundings as he dropped 10 points and 11 rebounds. The result leaves Celtics in eighth at 2-4 and Killester sitting in the top three as they are at 4-2 for the season now.
Flexachem KCYMS managed to get a convincing win over UCD Marian behind a 24-point showing from Jeffery Okeke and 16 rebounds from Jordan Blount as Killorglin beat UCD 90-68 to break even for the season at 3-3. For Marian, they also get to 3-3 following the defeat which leaves them in sixth place in the Domino’s Men’s Super League. Killorglin’s next game is in the Pat Duffy National Cup as they face a trip to EJ Sligo All-Stars
In the only Sunday fixture of the weekend, we saw an absolute thriller between defending champions UCC Demons and the 5-0 Belfast Star in game where Belfast managed to grab a sixth consecutive win in a 116-113 triumph after overtime.
Shariff Black kept his strong start to the season going for Demons with his second 33-point game of the season. Jarvis Doles also contributed for the Cork side with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
For Belfast, Rapolas Buivydas, Shane Bell and Roger Wilson all scored over 20 points for Star as they went two games clear at the summit of the Domino’s Men’s Super League at 6-0. UCC Demons will be hoping they can improve their 1-5 start to their title defence when they travel to face Griffith College Éanna in their next game in the Domino’s Men’s Super League. Meanwhile Belfast travel to St. Vincent’s hoping to further solidify their title aspirations. |
| FloMAX Liffey Celtics secure first win in Domino's Women's Super League
FloMAX Liffey Celtics managed to grab their first win of the season after holding off a late run from Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell in a 66-65 win.
Brooke Kane scored 26 points for Celtics in a game where Brunell led by as much as 19 and held the lead for the entire game until midway through the fourth quarter.
The win for Liffey takes them off of the foot of the table to ninth place as they prepare to take on Utility Trust St. Paul's Killarney in a few weeks to carry on the momentum of that first win. For Brunell, the loss drops them to fourth in the table with a 3-2 record. They travel to Portlaoise next to take on Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers.
26 points from Laila Blair was not enough for Catalyst Fr. Mathews as promoted side McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles won 82-69 to get their second win of the season. Soleil Barnes had 33 points and Katie O’Sullivan had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Cavan as they now reach fifth position with a 2-3 record with Fr. Mathews at the foot of the table still searching for that first win in the Domino’s Women’s Super League.
Killester made it five wins out of five as they defeated Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers 81-64. A convincing team performance carried Killester with Samantha Haiby, Audrey Roden, Hannah Thornton and Ieva Bagdanaviciene all hitting double digits in points with Haiby adding 15 rebounds and Thornton providing 10 of her own. Killester travel to Trinity next looking to go 6-0 with Portlaoise hosting Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell looking to get their season back on track with a second victory.
Hazel Finn has enjoyed life since moving to Trinity and continued her good form leading Meteors to a 63-53 triumph over Utility Trust St. Pauls Killarney. Meteors went in front early in the first quarter and never surrendered it from there on out.
The victory moves Trinity Meteors ahead of Utility Trust St. Pauls Killarney into second place at 4-1 and it also hands Killarney their first loss of the season as they end the weekend in third place.
There was a sole fixture for viewing on Sunday this weekend with SETU Waterford Wildcats getting to a positive 3-2 record on the season with a 79-75 win at UCC Glanmire.
Irish international Sarah Hickey continued her stellar form this season with a 28-point and nine rebound performance accompanied by an 18-point and 18 rebound showing from Tiarra Brown to get the victory in a back and forth game where teams were tied up on five separate occasions.
For Glanmire, Viane Cumber and Jewel Watkins both had 20+ point games but it ultimately fell short for Glanmire as they fall to 2-3 and are left in seventh place after the game. |
