Abbeydorney have knocked Lixnaw out of the Garvey's County Senior Hurling Championship. They're through to the semi-finals after a 1-18 to 0-19 victory.
Lixnaw led by 2 points to 1 after 6 minutes but successive Abbeydorney points from Michael O'Leary, Ronan Donovan and Jack Sheehan had them ahead by double scores, 0-4 to 0-2, with 10 minutes gone in the contest. Lixnaw responded with 3 points over the next 4 minutes, 2 from Shane Conway and 1 by Jamie Galvin, to nudge ahead by 1 before the water break. It was 6 all by the 20 minute mark before Abbeydorney went back in front by 1. Three points in a row followed from Lixnaw as they pulled 2 clear with 5 minutes left in the period. Abbeydorney had the next two scores, courtesy of Daniel O'Leary and PJ Keane, to draw level once more. Back to back points by Shane Conway looked like giving Lixnaw the advantage come half time but PJ Keane put over twice for Abbeydorney to peg them back. It was 11 all at the short whistle.
The second half followed a similar pattern and it was 15 points all at the water break. However, the decisive score came soon after. A Jack Sheehan goal for Abbeydorney had them 3 clear in the game of the weekend. On two separate occasions Lixnaw pointed but Abbeydorney responded each time to remain in front with 4 minutes remaining. Abbeydorney had the next point, in the 58th minute from PJ Keane, to open up a 4 point advantage. Lixnaw could not find the goal they needed and two points in added on time proved fruitless as Abbeydorney progressed.
