World headline-making Ukrainian Olympian will lead out 5k Chestnut Run at Killarney House and Gardens tomorrow

A skeleton racer who made world headlines at the 2026 Winter Olympics will lead out the 5k Chestnut Run at Killarney House and Gardens tomorrow.

Athlete Vladyslav Heraskeych wore the so-called "helmet of memory" with 24 images of Ukrainian athletes killed in the Russian invasion.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned him from wearing the helmet and he was ultimately disqualified after refusing to compete without it.

The Ukrainian community has teamed up with Killarney House parkrun to hold the 5k Chestnut Run at Killarney House and Gardens at 9.30 tomrrow morning.

Community development worker at NEWKD, Natalia Krasnenkova says Mr Heraskeych is inspired by the similarities between Ukrainian and Irish history:
