Works to upgrade the water mains in Castleisland have been completed.
Uisce Éireann replaced of 3.3 km of aged watermains in the town.
The old water mains had been prone to frequent bursts and leakage, before being upgraded.
Uisce Éireann says these upgrade works will ensure a more reliable water supply for homes, businesses and future generations in Castleisland.
The works, which were carried out as part Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, began last November.
Programme manager with Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin says the upgrade to the water mains will result in reduced leakage, will eliminate the challenges associated with old watermains and they will improve the resilience of the network.
He thanked residents, business owners, elected representatives, and the media for their support during the five-month project.
The works were carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Over the years all local representatives have called for action citing the impact that regular water outages were having on residents, schools and businesses in the town.
Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell, who lives in Castleisland, says the project is a key milestone in improving water services for the people of the town and surrounding areas.
