The minister of state responsible for the Office of Public Works Kevin Moran says there is no official date for the reopening of Rattoo Round Tower.
Repairs have been ongoing for the last number of years, with visitors only able to access the external area of the tower in Ballyduff.
Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae and Deputy Pa Daly recently raised the issue in the Dáil as to when Kerry’s only surviving complete round tower would be reopened to the public.
OPW minister Kevin Boxer Moran said in response upon completion of these internal works, his organisation will undertake a reassessment of risk and public safety.
He said this will determine the extent of public access to the interior of the medieval tower.
The minister added there are also no plans to provide new amenities such as seating or public lighting, as interventions would interfere with the historic fabric of the site.
