A woman is to be tried in the Circuit Court on charges of stealing almost €90,000 from Bord Gáis at the Fexco office in Killorglin.
36-year-old Ashwini Charla, of 6 School Road, Callinafercy, Milltown, appeared in Cahersiveen District Court on 54 counts of theft.
The alleged offending all occurred at Fexco on Iveragh Road in Killorglin, in a nine-week period in the summer of 2023.
Ms Charla is accused of stealing just under €90,000 from Bord Gáis at the Fexco office on Iveragh Road in Killorglin.
Ms Charla faces 54 counts of theft, each relating to a separate electronic transfer of funds belonging to Bord Gáis she allegedly made to herself in the summer of 2023.
She is alleged to have stolen €1,800 in one payment from Bord Gáis in the week of the 12th – 16th June 2023, and another €1,800 between 19th – 23rd June that year.
Ms Charla is then alleged to have stolen €875.10 between 23rd and 27th June.
She’s accused of stealing €3,600 through two payments between 16th and 20th July, and a further €4,211.56 in 3 payments from 23rd to 27th July, and one payment of €660.14 between 24th and 28th July.
The alleged offending escalated in August 2023, with Ms Charla accused of stealing €7,530 in five payments from 1st to 4th August.
From 4th to 8th August, she’s accused of stealing almost €12,000 in eight payments, and then a further €9,000 in five payments between 14th to 18th August.
Between 17th and 21st August 2023 alone, Ms Charla is accused of stealing €48,600 from Bord Gáis at the Fexco office on Iveragh Road.
Cahersiveen District Court was told the DPP has directed trial on indictment, and there is provision for Ms Charla to be sent forward on a signed plea.
Her solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said he requires further disclosure to give full advice to the accused with regard to the signed plea.
Ms Charla was remanded on continuing bail to 21st April for the book of evidence to be served.
