Students from West Kerry have won a national award for raising awareness of the vulnerable ringed plover.
Pupils from Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúgh in Castlegregory have won the Senior Award for Biodiversity at the Young Environmentalist Awards in Dublin.
The project combined education and conservation, including raising awareness for protecting this species of bird along the West Kerry coastline.
Collaborator Martha Farrell of the Maharees Conservation Association said the students highlighted the plight of the ringed plover brilliantly.
Another group in the school, Shore Line Shapers won an award in the eco-art category.
