A West Kerry dairy farmer is calling for TAMS to be overhauled because over 90% of applications are being rejected.
The Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) provides grant aid to farmers to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to generate their own renewable electricity to power farm buildings.
The scheme covers up to 60% of the cost, capped at €90,000, in order to increase energy efficiency and reduce fossil fuel usage.
Denis Galvin from Lispole is the chairperson of the West Kerry Dairy Farmer Sustainable Energy Community (SEC).
He says 90% of applications are failing because the scheme is too onerous and complicated.
