West Kerry councillors urge universities on the peninsula to explore developing new archeology course

West Kerry councillors will write to universities based on the peninsula seeking the development of a new archeology course.

It follows a motion from Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD.

He listed three colleges which are present on the Dingle peninsula, including Sacred Heart University, and believes such a course would be beneficial to the universities and the county.

Cllr Brosnan told members that he knows of a land owner who would be amenable to inviting college students to his land to undertake field studies and excavations.

He believes a certified archaeological field studies course would add to the history and economy of the area.

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor Breandán Fitzgerald.
