West Kerry councillors have issued an open invite to the RV Tom Crean to visit Dingle.
Cllr Breandán Fitzgerald raised the matter at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.
He said that next year will mark five years since the €25 million research vessel - named after the Kerry explorer - was commissioned in Dingle.
The ship is used for ocean surveys, fishery, acoustic and environmental research, and buoy and mooring operations; it spends 300 days at sea each year.
Cllr Fitzgerald says an invite for the RV Tom Crean should be there at all times; All councillors within the chamber echoed their support for issuing the invitation.
