Tel; 021- 4277151 www.union.ie Open Letter from the IWU, ESB, NT Strike Committee 22/4/2021 Dear, On Friday morning the 23rd of April the IWU membership of the ESB Network Technicians branch, will place official strike pickets on the premises of ESB networks throughout the country. Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to apologise to anyone who may be negatively affected as a result of this enforced industrial action. It is not, or never was, the wish of this group of workers to have to resort to official action in pursuance of a basic right of consultation with its employer, a right that is clearly defined in the Information and Consultation Act 2006-2008. It is also worth noting this dispute is not about money,that this dispute is about the failure of the Employer to partake in any meaningful discussions in relation to the continued outsourcing of our members work to outside third parties. (The continued privatisation of the ESB) It is also worth reminding to all, the members have been pursuing a resolution of this grievance properly through any available internal process since 2019. On every occasion the Employer has ignored or failed to address the matter in any meaningful way. Up to 15 ESB network technicians, who are members of the Independent Workers' Union, are on the picket line outside ESB offices at The Basin, Tralee today.

The union says the dispute is about the failure of the ESB to partake in any meaningful discussions in relation to outsourcing its members' work to third parties.

The union, which represents over 500 technicians, says it remains available to enter talks.

ESB Networks says the 24-hour action is unlawful and is threatening legal action; it does not recognise the union.

Kerry Sinn Fein TD, Pa Daly, spoke with workers on the picket line in Tralee this morning.

Deputy Daly said all workers in the county have concerns about outsourcing and is calling for all parties to engage on the issue:
