University Hospital Kerry ranks 8th in the country overall for access to an Emergency Medical Consultant.
That’s according to figures reported in today’s Irish Mail on Sunday.
The figures show that UHK received 5970 visits per Emergency Medicine Consultant (EMC) last year

This exceeds the recommended guidelines of 4000 visits per one EMC.
As of the 31st of December 2025, there were 8 Emergency Medicine Consultants in UHK, with 234 EMCs in hospitals nationwide
In total, There were of 47,758 attendances to UHK’s Emergency Department last year.
