University Hospital Kerry insists maternity restrictions are in line with national advice

University Hospital Kerry insists its restrictions around maternity scans are in line with national advice.
An expectant mother, who's 33 weeks pregnant, contacted Radio Kerry because she was not allowed bring her partner in for a scan at UHK although women who are 20 weeks pregnant are allowed to bring their partner.

In response, University Hospital Kerry said its current restrictions are based on Ireland South Guidelines and are in line with the current national advice.

The hospital says due to social distancing, it's not possible to facilitate partners' attendance at routine scans.
However, partners are allowed to attend the 20-week anatomy scan, while they are also present with women in labour and during childbirth.

UHK says unrestricted visiting is facilitated for both parents to the Neonatal Unit.

The hospital added it hopes to be able to facilitate unrestricted attendance in the near future in line with national guidance, as the vaccination rollout continues.
