University Hospital Kerry has been unable to discharge eleven people because of homelessness since the start of 2024.
That’s according to information provided from the HSE to Labour TD Conor Sheehan, in response to a parliamentary question on delayed discharge of patients due to homelessness.
In 2024, two UHK patients were noted as a delayed transfer of care due to homelessness, and this rose to ten last year.
Up to the 3rd March this year, one patient was not discharged due to homelessness.
Delayed transfers of care happen when a patient is ready to leave inpatient care but is still occupying a HSE-funded acute bed for reasons including homelessness.
