University Hospital Kerry exceeded the target for patients to access chemotherapy within 15 working days.
The HSE’s national target for hospitals is that 90% patients who are deemed ready to treat for chemotherapy, should receive their first cycle of systemic therapy in the day ward setting within 15 working days.
Last year, 92.8% of such patients at UHK accessed an appointment within 15 days.
11 other hospitals also met the 90% target, but 13 failed to meet it.
The information was contained in the Irish Cancer Society’s pre-budget submission for 2027, in which it also called for investment to accelerate progress at the oncology day ward at UHK.
