Two men convicted of Killarney father's murder to be sentenced for attacking gardaí

Two men convicted of the murder of a Killarney father are to be sentenced for attacking two off-duty gardaí.

The two were among six men found guilty of murdering 43-year-old Thomas Dooley at Rath Cemetery, Tralee on October 5th, 2022.

Thomas Dooley of The Halting Site, Carrigrohane, Cork, who’s now aged 22, will be sentenced on May 15th for attacking the two off-duty gardaí in Cork city on December 6th, 2021.

The other man found guilty of both crimes can't be identified as he was 16 at the time of the assaults causing harm in Cork and was 17 at the time of the Tralee murder.

He’ll also be sentenced on May 15th.

A third man – 19-year-old Patrick Dooley of Bay 3, Halting Site, Carrigrohane convicted of attacking the two off-duty members of An Garda Síochána in December 2021 had nothing to do with the murder in Tralee.

He was remanded on bail until May 15th.

The Irish Examiner reported that at the sentencing hearing in Cork Circuit Criminal Court, the court heard the three men assumed the stance of boxers as they stripped to the waist and punched the off-duty gardaí.

Sergeant Eamonn Feehan said the two victims identified themselves as gardaí but this did nothing to deter the attackers.
