Two Kerry primary schools have closed their doors for the final time.
Ballymacelligott National School in Flemby and Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Lixnaw are among eight primary schools nationally that closed permanently today.
For the 2024/25 academic school year, there were two students enrolled in Ballymacelligott National School in Flemby.
Both students have secured school places elsewhere for the upcoming 2025/26 academic year.
Meanwhile, there was just one pupil enrolled in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Lixnaw this year.
A spokesperson of the Department of Education said the schools' patron, the Catholic Bishop of Kerry's decision to close the school followed consultation with the school community.
