Two Kerry museums are to receive almost €26,000 (€25,875) in total from the Regional Museum Exhibition Scheme 2025.
€15,000 has been granted to Kerry Writers' Museum for improvements to existing exhibitions that will make the visitor experience more interactive, hands-on, and engaging.
Meanwhile, Kerry County Museum in Tralee has been allocated almost €11,000 (€10,875) for a new handling collection.
The handling collection will be a specially curated selection of objects that visitors can touch and interact with, helping them learn by physically exploring items that are usually kept in storage or not available for public handling.
These objects will used in the museum and also in schools and colleges across the county.
They will also form an important part of the museum’s outreach to local community groups who don’t have easy access to the museum.
The funding has been welcomed by Minister Norma Foley, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae and by Deputies Michael Cahill and Danny Healy-Rae.
This funding, totalling €192,193, will benefit seventeen museums nationwide, including projects marking the 90th anniversary of the Irish Met Service at Foynes, and separate exhibitions on the Limerick Ladies Football Club and Richard Harris in Limerick.
