Two fashion jewellery shops in Kerry are to close, but a specific closing date is not yet known.
The tween jewellery and ear-piercing retailer, Claire's, has two stores in Kerry: one at Unit 21 of Manor West Retail Park in Tralee and another at the Outlet Centre in Killarney.
Closing sales have commenced in both stores to sell their remaining stock.
On the 6th August, their parent company Claire's Holdings LLC in the United States declared bankruptcy for a second time in seven years, ostensibly because of slowing consumer spending there.
That same month, Claire’s Accessories UK Ltd, which includes 15 stores in Ireland, appointed joint administrators, Will Wright and Chris Pole of Interpath Advisory, to resolve its financial problems.
In September, 156 of Claire’s stores, including one in Ireland, were sold to Modella Capital.
However, 14 of its 15 Irish stores were not sold and are to be shut down.
Except for their store on Cruises Street in Limerick, they continue to trade and are running closing down sales in order to sell the remaining stock.
A spokesperson for the joint administrators was unable to tell Radio Kerry when this might change.
They stressed that their priority remains “to assess all the options available for the Claire’s stores which did not transfer to Modella as part of the transaction announced on 29th September.”
