Kerry is among the counties with the lowest rates of new builds across Ireland.
That’s according to research from onemillionhomes.ie, based on census and CSO figures, local authority data and newly built homes.
It shows that two local electoral areas in Kerry are among the longest wait time for a new build home nationwide among 18-44 year-olds.
The data shows, based on current trends, people in the “first-time buyer” age bracket in the Listowel region are waiting 132.1 years to obtain a newly built home.
The Castleisland LEA also appears in the longest wait for keys nationally, at 123.2 years.

The rate in Tralee is the third highest at 63.9 years, followed by Kenmare (43.4 years), Corca Dhuibhne (42.5 years), while Killarney was the lowest at 32.1 years.
Meanwhile, the figures show Kerry had a new builds per capita rate of 8.3 per 1,000 in 2025.
According to the data, the county ranks 23 out of 26 in the Republic.
