Turf sales in retail outlets, local newspapers and online will be penalised from this winter onwards.
The Irish Independent reports that new rules under the Air Pollution Act will come into effect on October 31st with local authorities tasked with enforcing the clampdown.
People with turbary rights in respect of turf will be unaffected by the new regulations.
