Tributes are being paid to journalist and Killarney man John O’Mahony who passed away yesterday aged in his early 60s.
John is being remembered as a true gentleman, whose death leaves a huge void in Killarney and Kerry.
John O’Mahony started his career in the newsroom with the Now and Then newspaper, which rebranded as The Kingdom, where he was later appointed as the managing editor.
In 2011, John and his wife, Geraldine, established O’Mahony Media Ltd, a news, publishing, public relations and media training consultancy, and he later launched KillarneyToday.com.
He is being remembered as a journalist of the highest calibre, a fabulous work colleague and for his sense of humour and fun.
Cathaoirleach of Killarney, Martin Grady has paid tribute to John, saying he had an unrivalled passion for Killarney and its people, and he was committed to telling the stories that reflected the life and spirit of his community, and keeping communities connected and informed.
Martin Grady says John O’Mahony was a true gentleman and treated everyone with respect and kindness.
He says his passing leaves a great void in the Killarney community, adding his contribution to the town will not be forgotten.
The Cathaoirleach says John will be deeply missed by all who knew him and by the many people who relied on his reporting each day.
On behalf of the people of Killarney, Martin Grady is extending his heartfelt condolences to his wife Geraldine, his daughter Molly, his extended family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.
