Tributes are being paid to the Kerry student who won the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition.
Mercy Mounthawk student, 15-year-old, Aoibheann Daly scooped the top prize for her project, GlioScope.
It’s designed to help doctors improve the treatment of brain cancer, and reduce the need for invasive biopsies.
Science teacher at Mercy Mounthawk, Roisin Riordan - who was one of the teachers involved in the project - says Aoibheann’s work was incredible.
Ms Riordan described her reaction when Aoibheann Daly’s name was called out as the overall winner:
A homecoming celebration for Young Scientist winner Aoibheann Daly was held at Mercy Mounthawk this afternoon.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Children Norma Foley praised the school and Aoibheann on the win.
