A residential care service in Tralee received an almost universally positive review following a recent inspection.
The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) conducted an announced inspection of St. John of God Kerry Residential Community Services in Tralee in April (30 April).
It was deemed compliant with 14 of 15 Health Act regulations, and substantially-compliant with one more.
The centre is home to up to 11 adult residents with intellectual disabilities.
Residents, staff, and management all told the inspector that the centre provided good supports that enhanced quality of life.
He observed that staff were very respectful with the residents and interacted with them in a jovial manner.
Both residents and their family members spoke highly of the staff.
The HIQA inspector found the centre to be compliant with 14 of 15 Health Act regulations assessed.
It was found to be substantially compliant with one more: a regulation concerning the training and development of staff.
He concluded that although the person in charge maintained a training matrix, the was no evidence of up-to-date fire safety and safeguarding training for agency staff.
All of these staff members completed training updates and refresher training in the week following the inspection, and two agency staff also completed safeguarding refresher training within that period.
