The plant was due to fully close at the end of March.

A Tralee manufacturing plant which was due to close last month will now fully cease operations in June.

BorgWarner, which makes air heaters for the automotive industry, announced last July that it will close in March of this year, with the loss of 200 jobs.

Last month, BorgWarner told Radio Kerry its facility in Monavalley had not yet been sold.

This followed concerns raised by Kerry county councillor Jim Finucane, who said it'd been brought to his attention that the BorgWarner plant could be sold or is going through a sales process, without the involvement of the IDA.

The plant was due to fully close at the end of March.

However, BorgWarner says it previously disclosed a phased shutdown of production and engineering activities which began in the third quarter of 2020.

As of now, the majority of the operations have ceased, but a small crew will be working until June.

It adds that the facility has not been sold yet and it can't comment on ongoing processes.
