Tralee man admits laundering over €18,000 of criminal proceeds in three days

A Tralee man has admitted laundering over €18,000 worth of criminal proceeds, or illegal money, in the space of three days.

26-year-old Kieran Keane of 53 Gallowsfield, Tralee, pleaded guilty to three counts of money laundering at Tralee Circuit Court.

Mr Keane was previously sent forward to the Circuit Court on a signed plea of guilty to three charges.

The charge is engaging in converting/transferring/handling/acquiring/possessing/using property that is the proceeds of criminal conduct, while knowing, believing, or being reckless as to whether that property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The first of those was that on 30th October 2024, he laundered amounts of over €2,600 and €3,200 credited to his own AIB account.

The next day, he also laundered amounts totalling over €2,800 and €3,700 into his own AIB account.

The next day, he laundered amounts of over €2,316 and over €3,800 through his AIB account.

These are money laundering offences contrary to the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010.

Mr Keane was present in Tralee Circuit Court to affirm his guilty pleas.

Judge Alec Gabbett remanded him on continuing bail to 21st April for sentencing.
