A Tralee man accused of a violent knife attack is to be sent forward to stand trial on two charges.
26-year-old Anthony Burke, with an address at Arlington Lodge in Tralee, was re-arrested this morning and now faces two charges.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed he stand trial on those two charges.
Gardaí have alleged that Mr Burke carried out a violent and frenzied attack with a knife on another man, leaving that man with serious injuries.
That alleged attack happened at Arlington Lodge in Tralee town centre, on November 10th last.
Arising from this, he faced a charge of assault causing serious harm to the other man.
He has been in custody since his arrest in November, but he has had the option to take up bail if he agreed to live outside Tralee.
At Tralee District Court this morning, Detective Garda Anthony Wharton gave evidence that he arrested Mr Burke again this morning and charged him.
This new charge alleges the production of a knife in the course of the same dispute on November 10th at Arlington Lodge.
Sergeant Chris Manton said the DPP has directed trial on indictment, and he will have the book of evidence against him ready in two weeks to formally send him forward for trial.
His solicitor Brendan Ahern said he will be applying to have his client sent forward on different bail conditions.
Mr Ahern said part of the reason the current bail conditions were imposed was the possibility of an attempted murder charge, but this obviously had not materialised.
Judge David Waters said he will hear the application for new bail conditions on 14th May, but it’s very unlikely he will vary them.
