Tralee councillor calls for improved rollout of CCTV

There are calls for the improved rollout of CCTV in Tralee town.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Mikey Sheehy put forward the motion at the recent Municipal District meeting.

Under legislation passed in 2023, CCTV is run under two separate schemes; one which is run by An Garda Sióchána, and another ‘community’ scheme operated by local authorities.

Kerry County Council is currently the Data Controller for a number of community CCTV schemes in Tralee.

Cllr Sheehy raised concerns over the responsibility for CCTV in the town being shared between two organisations.

He said that the rollout needs to be streamlined:
