Tralee is among a number of locations in Kerry and Cork being considered for the location of a mass COVID-19 vaccination centre.

That's according to a letter to Kerry County Council from CEO of the South/South West Hospital Group, Gerry O'Dwyer.

At this month's Tralee Municipal District meeting, Councillor Mikey Sheehy called on the council to write to the HSE and request Tralee be considered for a mass vaccination centre.

In a written response to the council's letter, Mr O'Dwyer confirmed that a number of locations in Kerry and Cork, including Tralee, have been considered for a mass vaccination site.

The locations which were considered have now been passed on to the National Vaccine Committee, which is responsible for the co-ordination of the vaccine rollout.

Mr O'Dwyer's reply adds that priority locations are developed by the National Vaccine Committee, and further direction is expected in the coming weeks.

Cllr Sheehy says while he welcomes the response, he feels that swift action is required, as clarity and decisiveness are key in battling COVID-19.
