Fáilte Ireland has confirmed people will be charged a fee for using the toilets and showers at the new water sports facility in Fenit.
When construction is finished, the new, €1.3 million facility will include year-round hot showers, changing rooms, and toilets, as well as secure storage space and equipment washdown areas.
Fáilte Ireland says a 50 cent fee will be charged for the use of the toilets, and €3 for a hot shower, to support the ongoing maintenance and high standards of service.
Sinn Féin councillor for the Tralee Municipal District Paul Daly, says the facilities should be entirely free to use.
Kerry County Council is separately providing public toilets which are free of charge, and Cllr Daly says this makes no sense.
