Organisers of the events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of The Liberator Daniel O'Connell are hopeful for good weather and a big turnout.
Three days of events in Caherciveen are kicking off this evening, with an under 12 football community blitz in partnership with the South Kery GAA board.
The blue plaque at the Daniel O'Connell Memorial Park, overlooking his birth place of Carhan House will be unveiled at 9am tomorrow, followed by Mass in the Penal Chapel, where another blue plaque will be unveiled later that evening.
A monster meeting will take place in the Old Abbey, paying tribute to the meetings held by The Liberator,
A state commemoration at Derrynane House will proceed a civic reception in Caherciveen which will be attended by the Taoiseach, as well as the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan.
Street entertainment, parades and a community picnic will take place during the festivities, which will conclude with a flotilla on Thursday evening, led by the boat "The Liberator."
