Ten schools in Kerry have been approved for new special education classes.
It’s part of 95 additional classes nationwide sanctioned by the Department of Education for the 2026/27 academic year.
It brings to 16 the number of special classes approved for Kerry in 2026.
Eight primary schools and two secondary schools in the county, including in Cahersiveen, Dingle, Kenmare, Castleisland and Tralee will benefit from the latest tranche.
The announcement has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill, Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly, Children's Minister Norma Foley, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, and Deputy Danny Healy-Rae.
The Kerry schools approved are:
• Scoil Saidhbhín, Caherciveen
• Scoil Nuachabhail, Castleisland
• Presentation Secondary School / Meanscoil Naomh Ioseph, Castleisland
• Bunscoil an Chlochair (Clochar Daingean), Dingle
• St John’s National School, Kenmare
• St Oliver’s National School, Killarney
• St Brendan’s College, Killarney
• Nagle-Rice Primary School, Milltown
• Listellick Primary School (S.N. Lios Teilic)
• S.N. Cathair Leithin (Naomh Pádraig Measc), Tralee
