The Taoiseach says he’s dismayed at large homebuilders threatening legal action over proposed rental sector changes.
Property developers claim the reforms are unconstitutional and are seeking engagement from the government prior to their introduction - or face legal action.
Micheál Martin says the same developers were calling for radical changes to improve the housing supply, and are now crying foul on the reforms.
The Taoiseach says these builders can’t have it both ways and the measures are constitutional.
He added it gives lie to claims that the government is always favouring landlords and developers.
Meanwhile, the Taoiseach says he can’t understand the oppositions calls to boycott a St.Patrick’s Day visit to the White House.
Micheál Martin was speaking as he visits Kerry on a number of engagements today, including visiting the RDI Hub in Killorglin and Astellas in Tralee.
He says Kerry companies like Fexco and Kerry Group are examples of businesses with interests and investments in the US.
The Taoiseach believes this underlines the importance of engaging with the US government over St Patrick’s weekend.
Micheál Martin says the visit is essential to maintain Irish-American relations.
