The acquisition of the Killarney Brewing and Distilling facility in Fossa has been completed.
Spirit Capital, the new owners, say their ambition is to bring distilling, brewing, hospitality, and visitor experience together at the new business.
Spirit Capital is a Swiss-based company, already attached to iconic luxury French alcohol brands.
Killarney Brewing and Distilling Company opened the facility in Fossa in 2022 at a cost of €24 million, in addition to its taprooms and restaurant on Muckross Road.
Plans to merge with a US strategic partner fell through in 2025, and the company went into examinership before ceasing operations last July.
The Fossa facility has now been purchased by Spirit Capital, which has today announced that the acquisition of the facility is completed.
Spirit Capital says its commitment is long term, and its intention is to bring the facility back into productive use on a phased, responsible, and properly-managed basis.
It said the immediate priority is to complete necessary transition work across safety, compliance, licensing, utilities, engineering, and operational planning before activity recommences in Fossa.
The company said it has enormous respect for the work and ambition of all those previously involved, and it described the facility as one of the most iconic and significant food, beverage, and tourism assets in the region.
It said as the project moves forward, Spirit Capital intends to work constructively with local contractors, suppliers, professional advisers, and stakeholders where possible.
It says it brings more than 200 years of distilling heritage at the highest level of international premium spirits industry.
The company says it’s ambition is to build a business that Killarney and Kerry can be proud of, with distilling, brewing, hospitality, and visitor experience all contributing positively to the local economy.
