A south Kerry nursing home received a generally positive review follow a recent HIQA inspection.
The unannounced two-day inspection of Kenmare Nursing Home at Killaha East took place in September (17/09/2025-18/09/2025).
The nursing home was fully compliant with 12 of the 19 regulations against which it was assessed, substantially compliant with six more, and not compliant with one.
Residents told the inspector that the staff were kind and caring, while visitors also gave positive feedback.
However, some residents complained that, despite interesting activities during the day, evenings could be boring as there wasn’t much to do.
Management responded that staff sit with residents in the evening to play cards, have meaningful conversations, take them for walks, and play bingo and ball games if they wished.
Kenmare Nursing Home’s complaints procedure was the only requirement deemed not compliant.
Management says its policy has since been updated, and training on effective complaints management provided.
The inspector reported that overall, residents of Kenmare Nursing Home received a good standard of care from knowledgeable staff.
