It’s expected solicitors will not be carrying out criminal legal aid work in courts over the next three days in a dispute over a proposed legal aid reforms involving solicitor fees.
This action is taking place today, tomorrow and Friday nationwide and it’s in a row over a new payments plan due to be introduced next month.
Under the proposed scheme, solicitors in district court criminal cases will receive a flat fee of €455 per client in criminal legal aid cases, regardless of how many hearings are involved in a case.
The District Court and Circuit Court in Kerry are sitting in Tralee today and it’s understood solicitors in the county will take part in the action.
