Seven primary schools are taking part in the Killarney Coffee Cup Project.
Pupils from Presentation Monastery, Gaelscoil Faithleann, Scoil Bhríd Loreto, Lissivigeen, Knockanes, Tiernaboul and Glenflesk national schools will receive 12oz reusable cups to use in the classroom, in the schoolyard and at home.
The initiative received money from Kerry County Council’s Community Support Fund.
There is also an educational element to the project, with pupils learning about recycling, sustainability and single-use plastics.
Killarney was the first town in the EU to eliminate single-use takeaway coffee cups using a deposit-and-return reusable cup scheme.
