Sadness at the passing of Doodle Kennelly, daughter of poet Brendan

The death has taken place in Dublin of Kristen Kennelly, the only child of renowned Kerry writer Brendan Kennelly and American poet Margaret 'Peggy' O'Brien.

Ms Kennelly, who was better known as 'Doodle', was a talented writer who wrote very openly about her mental health challenges in The Sunday Independent.

The mother of three, who was 51, died suddenly at her home in South Dublin.

She is survived by her three daughters, her father Brendan and a wide family circle in North Kerry.

A private family funeral will be held in Dublin.
