The Road Safety Authority has issued advice to motorists in the county during the status yellow rain warning.
The warning comes into effect at 5pm and will be in place until 5 o'clock tomorrow morning.
Met Eireann has warned of spells of heavy rain with the possibility of a few thundery downpours.
This could lead to flash flooding, very difficult traveling conditions with poor visibility and potential damage to power lines.
The RSA has advised motorists to slow down and allow a greater braking distance between themselves and the vehicle in front.
Drivers are also advised to take special care when driving behind goods vehicles, and to avoid flooded roads.
Motorists are also advised to drive with dipped lights and to drive slowly with their foot on the brake pedal for a short distance after driving through water, in order to dry out the brakes.
